I Ching Path

Hexagram 20 · Line 5

Contemplation五六

Guan · Wu Liu

五六 · Wu Liu

The Line

Contemplation of my life. The noble one is without blame.

Interpretation

A person at a decisive place, to whom the others look up, must be continually ready for self-examination. The right kind of self-examination does not, however, consist in brooding idly over oneself, but in examining the effects that proceed from one. Only if these effects are good, if one exerts a good influence on others, will the contemplation of one's own life give the satisfaction of being without fault.
