Hexagram 22 · Line 1
Grace — 初九
Bi Grace · Chu Jiu
初九 · Chu Jiu
The Line
He lends grace to his toes, leaves the wagon, and walks.
Interpretation
The position at the beginning and in a subordinate place brings it about that one must take the trouble of moving forward onto oneself. One would have opportunity to obtain, under the hand, an easing, represented under the image of the wagon. But a self-contained person scorns such easings obtained in questionable ways. They find it more graceful to go on foot than to ride unlawfully in the wagon.
