The Line

The ridgepole is braced. Good fortune. If there are ulterior motives, it is humiliating.

Interpretation

Through friendly relations with those below, a responsible man succeeds in mastering the situation. But if he were to abuse his relations for the sake of gaining power and success for himself personally, instead of caring only for the rescue of the whole, this would be humiliating.
