Hexagram 1 · Line 5

The Creative五九

Qian · Wu Jiu

五九 · Wu Jiu

The Line

A flying dragon in the sky. It is favorable to see the great man.

Interpretation

Here the great man has arrived in the sphere of the heavenly. Their influence stretches visibly across the whole world. Everyone who sees them can count themselves blessed. Confucius says of this: "What agrees in tone vibrates together. What is akin in innermost essence seeks its own. Water flows toward the moist; fire turns toward the dry. The clouds (heaven's breath) follow the dragon; the wind (earth's breath) follows the tiger. Thus the sage rises up, and all beings look toward them. What stems from heaven feels kin with what is above. What stems from the earth feels kin with what is below. Each follows its kind."
